Whew!
We made it one full week. She went to a birthday party yesterday and a play-date today. Both were in the comfort of a home, thankfully. I do not think I am ready for public restrooms. The potty fits like a glove in the back of my SUV. We have a multicolored blanket for privacy and books for her reading pleasure. Perks of a DIAPER FREE home: 1. No more awful diaper changes. 2. More money to save. 3. Building her independence. As she grows, I enjoy watching her take each step. I’m not the mom that cries at sight of their little one transitioning. I love the determination in her eyes and the glow in her face when she conquers an obstacle. She exudes a confidence that can be stifled if I am not supportive. Consequently, supporting her during this process has left me more tired than usual. I found myself working through the night since my days were filled with trending her potty times and liquid consumption. Yes, the analyst in me kicked in – this was a major secret to our success. Our system: 1. We use pull-ups overnight/outings and panties for naps. 2. She drinks the majority of her daily liquids between potty trip #1 and 1pm. 3. She potties twice - once an hour before nap. 4. Her last drink is with dinner (around six). 5. Bedtime routine: a. Potty 2x between 6-8:30. b. Bath time – 8:30. c. Last Potty – 9pm. Issue: She cries wolf while falling to sleep. We have to make at least one more trip to ensure she stays dry. So far, she has not used the potty again and wakes with a dry pull-up. This has been one of the busiest times in my life. Like most Mamas, big transitions are done when you think there’s absolutely NO way. I will place a check mark in this box and move on!

Wowsers! It has been quite a crazy 24 hours since my last entry. Here are the highlights: 1. Woke up from her nap dry (yesterday). 2. Slept through the night and woke up dry. 3. Started the day with with two accidents - she could not make it to the POTTY. 4. Midday, we got into our groove - she completed a serious task (which I will spare the details. Let's just stay she does not have a problem with numbers one or two. It is now nap-time. I can catch up on the chores that have been overlooked during this process. Thankfully - I ate breakfast with hubby and was able to cook his lunch prior to his departure.. Tips for Day Two: 1. Be Present. 2. Be Nice. 3. Be Persistent. 4. Think Ahead. I slept soundly last night and woke up two hours prior to the house to complete my tasks for the day. The soreness from crouching down and sitting on the floor all day was grueling. Yet, I'm grateful I was able to get a start on the day. Remember, this is not a transition for you. It is their time to grow and engage. Being focused, present and nice will be helpful to everyone involved. There was a moment when I thought- maybe this isn't her time. Then, she proved me absolutely wrong. Listen to your little one. you know their mannerisms. Use your gut to determine the best method. Lastly, don't be caught without the essentials. We stocked up on paper towels, disinfectant and baby wipes, laundry detergent and liquids. Sorry for the brevity but I must tackle the dishes, fold some clothes and cook dinner before she wakes in one hour. My days have suddenly turned into a POTTY TRAINING Bootcamp.. Ideally, this transition will be complete this week. I read the the 3 Day Guide, googled serveral tips and spoke to my Mama Vets (aka Veteran Mamas).
To be quite honest, I didn't plan to start this process until after she turns two (April). The advice I've received is to let her decide when she is ready. Well SOMEthing came over her and last week - she woke up and said, "I want to POTTY". The next two days she began to unfasten diapers and on Friday she said,"I want big girl POTTY". The fact that she wakes with a dry diaper is in my favor, according to the POTTY TRAINING gurus. We went to Target yesterday and she picked the following: 1. Munchkin Arm & Hammer Natural Fit POTTY 2. Princess Pets panties I've read the importance of not using pull-ups but decided on a pack of Minnie Mouse ones (just in case). We came home unpacked and she immediately sat on the POTTY. We spent forty minutes talking about going POTTY. We also sang songs and read books. Yes, I've read that these tactics are not ideal, but I'm not going to make this experience negative. Luckily, she used the POTTY for the first time, last night. We danced and chanted, "go big girl, go big girl!". (This is the term we used to describe her transition from sippy cup.) Day ONE: Remember, this is not a transition for you.
